Operation “Kaman 99”
On September 22, 1980, just three hours after the Iraqi Ba’athist regime’s attack on Iran, 8 Iranian Phantom fighter bombers struck Iraq’s Shoaibiah and Kut air bases in Operation Vengeance. That was a minor operation aimed at distracting the enemy before the main operation was planned under the supervision of Iran’s Air Force Commander Major General Javad Fakouri.
