Art and sports against colonialism
Gabriel Okara
Okara was one of the first Nigerian authors to write in English, however, he always tried to reflect the features of his native language in his writings. His early experimental novel, The voice, depicts the story of people who have gone through the dark period of colonialism, faced identity challenges, an identity, which on one hand is rooted in ancient African traditions and on the other hand struggles with western materialism.
