Omar Mukhtar
He was a simple teacher from Libya who confronted the ltalian colonialists more than a thousand times in twenty years. His resistance led him to be known among the Libyan people as The Lion of the Desert and Sheikh of the Martyrs. Omar Mukhtar was finally wounded in a battle against the colonialists in 1930, he was captured and a year later he was sentenced to death by the ltalians in a ceremonial court. Today, Mukhtar’s face appears on the Libyan ten-dinar note. After sometime, the French government captured him and exiled him to Damascus for the rest of his life.
